Break the Impediment Limits and Take
a Role Model to Act More
Prejudice has become the most afflicting issue
towards the relationship among the society. Several claims appear whether
certain people or a nation categorized into certain characteristics, which it
brought to the stereotypes. In May 1998, exactly after the fall of Suharto’s
regime in Indonesia, it marked as the swiftest reversals of national fortune in
the developing world this century (Pei, 1999).
The economic recession that Indonesia and China faced at that time had brought
to the perspective of some Indonesian that Chinese undertook the political
constraints towards Indonesia. Prejudice appeared for some Indonesian that
hatred was purposed towards Chinese, there was tragic war for some Chinese who
lived in Indonesia and many victims of sexual harassment, violence and the
others as the result of tragedy 1998. Nearly after the tragedy issue declining,
the discrimination of racial factors was still merely happen in Indonesian. Gradually,
Indonesian become open-minded and admitted the existence of Chinese people in
Indonesia. Some of the Chinese culture was allowed to develop in Indonesia,
especially for Thionghoa people who want to celebrate certain events by playing
Barongsai, or nearly as the lion dance which usually performed on Chinese New
Year. By the time, Chinese have the
actualization of their culture to be fostered and developed in Indonesia as a
part of cultural heritage.
Indonesia
cannot ignore the achievements that some of Chinese people, who become
Indonesia citizen, contribute towards Indonesia. For instance, a success person
comes from Chinese inheritance named Merry Riana. She is a brave girl who
passionately pursues her dreams until she should move to Singapore and
continued her study there, since the tragedy 1998 threatened her. Recently, she is familiarly known as a 1
million-dollar girl who succeeds in her struggling of her career. In contrast,
she still marked Indonesia as a part of her and she returned back from
Singapore to build some business organization in Indonesia. By this example, it
can be proved that no matter who the person is but what the person made toward the
nation. Prejudice, stereotype, and prejudging should be avoided to make the
relationship among Indonesia and China always in a good situation. No matter
the differential that happen in the physical form, language or culture but each
other should have self- acknowledge as a part of certain nation, and should not
blamed or judge other nation.
After
looking back from the history of relationship among China and Indonesia, there
is a big opportunity for both these countries to generate the better future
nations by making good partnerships in several sectors. For instance, it can be
from the politic side, education, tourism, economy, and population. Those
factors underlie within both countries will be a catalyst for a mutual relationship
among Indonesia and China.
The
initial conditions underlie among China and Indonesia showed the fact that both
of these countries categorized as the underdeveloped agrarian economies
countries. In fact, China and Indonesia categorized as the two of the world’s
largest countries which they account for nearly 30 percent of the developing
world population (Kong, 2010).
Some political decisions shared similarities towards economic situations
between two nations. The financial crisis in 1997-1998 had changed the
political landscape among countries. Indonesia was one of the worst parties
affected by the monetary crisis during the recession time after the New Order
Regime. In contrast, China was less affected by the crisis but it had a
fundamental change with the political structure which known by the term
‘fragmented authoritarianism’. Towards this issue, the thing that should be
recovered in the future is that the politic relationship should be maintained
in order to gain a mutual diplomacy situation among two countries. However,
politic has a role in economic and development of the countries which affected
into several aspects.
In
education aspect, it has a huge responsibility and role towards fostering
Indonesia and China to be better nations. China hosted nearly 380,000 foreign
students in 2014 but has a target to attract 500,000 by 2020 (Monitor, 2016). It showed that China has already given
the opportunities for foreign students to get known about China even for having
education in China. This country has already established a good relation with
others by giving a significant effect towards the society in other nations.
According to the ICEF Monitor, it stated that in Asia, the percentage of mobile
East Asian students studying within the region rose from 36% to 42% between
1999 and 2007. It gave the evidence that more than half of all internationally
mobile students worldwide call Asia home by a number percentage of 53%. By
having an abroad study opportunity, China which also conduct the foreign
exchange study program has fostered the foreign students to recognize more the
destination, regulatory in China and give the work rights to get a chance
working in several big commodities company in China. It would not only giving
beneficial for one side of certain country, but also giving the mutual benefits
towards both countries. For China, it can increase the GDP of the country by
having the selective excellent workers from another country. Meanwhile, for the
foreigner students, it is benefited for the country to have a good human
empowerment by conducting the education in China which has the excellent mark
by Indonesian.
In
addition, looking to the tourism condition in Indonesia, there are many islands
underlie in Indonesia but has not been developed in significant effect.
Indonesia still needs a good human empowerment to manage and improve the
benefits of those islands. The islands that have not been developed well, for
example, Masokut Island, Pagai Island, Burung Island, Basu Island, and there
are thousand more Island that has not been developed significantly by
Indonesia. If it looks to the condition of Island that Indonesia has, it
supposed to bring the mutual beneficial for both Indonesia as the owner of all
those Island and other countries that will help develop the human empowerment
to develop it. China and Indonesia can have mutual contribution that gives the
opportunity to China in empowering the human to have good education and quality
performance in working. In contrast, Indonesia can develop the Island that has
not been handled since many years. Using the legalized agreement and certain
procedures, it supposed to be the less known island to be managed and being
taken care of by the humans. Hence, there will be more people can treat the
island including the forest, and other aspects inside to be managed in good
manner.
The
foreign exchange also is not only merely happen towards the students but also
the technology among China and Indonesia. It is already known than China gives
a huge impact towards the technology condition, even the economic situation
affected by the selling technology to be spread among regions in Indonesia.
China has a good business skill enterprise that can promote each product to
appeal the willingness of the consumers. Some of Indonesian even tend to use
the China’s product, for example, toy, cellphone or other equipment, rather
than imported from another countries. These factors also supported by the
selling price aspect that can make people in Indonesia have assumption that
China’s product is affordable for most Indonesian. Hence, China is believed by
some of Indonesian that this nation has an excellent business skill enterprise
which applied not only for its country but also towards other countries such as
Indonesia as the one of the objects.
The
perception, that China has a good enterprise skill for the citizen has made a
considerable effect towards Indonesian to continue study in China, especially
the ones who majoring in Business studies. Besides, by the long term plan some
of Indonesian are ambitious to get the opportunities to work in several
institutions or companies in China. It underlies by the reasons that if
continuing study or having a job in China can make the Indonesian to have a
good prospect in the future. Indonesian think that China can act as a jump
stone towards the success of each individual especially who passionate in
technology and business. Recently, the number of students who are ambitiously
to get a certification of education abroad is merely increasing. This also
supported by the fact that Indonesian faced a big challenge in working
opportunities by having an Asean Economic Community. Hence, the good
qualification of education and skills become mostly insisted by many companies
especially which offer good prospect in the future. Indonesian is not only
competing with the same citizen, but also with another working candidate from
another country. Eventually, as China also offer good prospect for some
students in Indonesia who majoring in certain categories are willing to get
opportunity in China.
Another
aspect also can be seen from the population. China is categorized as one of the
country that has a large number of people in the nation. According to
worldometers (2016), it is reported that the population in China until this
2016 has a number of 1,382,323,332 people. It ranked by the firs country who
has large population. In contrast, even China categorized as a dense-populated
country but it classified as the develop country rather than Indonesia. It
means that China has a better regulatory system and economic condition that
drives within the nation. It does not matter the number of population as long
as the government and each individual can fulfill the needs and requirement for
surviving the life.

However,
those factors also contributed towards the health conditions of the citizen in
China, the social welfare occurs in each region and the social facilities
offered by the government. In Indonesia perception, most Indonesian believed
that China has good social welfare as the accomplishment reflected by the
economic condition in China has shown a remarkable good mark towards the
citizen. The government has set the regulation and policy which fully
considered to the prospering health condition among its citizen. As a developed
country, surely China is considered to be a role model by another country which
is still in the effort to be a develop country. Even actually, it is
considerable as to be a good nation like China there would be several factors
to be considered and need much effort to be recovered. For instance, the most
capitalist factor is the human empowerment which supported by the crucial value
of education. In contrast, there are still some educational institutions which
need help and fund from the government especially in the rural areas. Besides,
the health condition of the citizen in Indonesia also still becomes the concern
since the inequality of social facilities distributions are majoring in the
slum areas. Therefore, a comprehensive action by the ones who have authorities
and efforts to make Indonesia to be a better country will give significant
impact towards the society. However, to do this thing, it required support and
several programs provided, for example student exchange program held by China,
can help to encourage Indonesian to build a better nation which contribute to
the society.
In
conclusion, those several factors that underlie behind the perception of
Indonesian towards China are merely concerning with the critical issue that mostly
happen in China, and the development regulatory and policy by the government of
China towards the citizen. However, fostering education towards people is
crucial as the generate factor to help build an innovation that can be
beneficial for the society. Then, to make it happen each individual should be
open-minded and try to seek the opportunities given by the circumstances to
take a directive action towards improvement. As a change maker who can support
the nation to be better, each person should be able to interact and involve in
several programs which not only comes from its own national country, but also
from other countries which believed as the role model. However, China has
already proved that this country have made approached its success and contribute
to the society by its several programs.
